Why “radical” ecology? It has become obvious that experts and scientists are struggling to communicate the value of their research. We do not live in an era where people value scientific thinking, or academic expertise. I think the time has come for scientists to certainly be clear about what their research and findings illuminate, but also take some additional steps to relay to the lay people what their research means. We’re in a stage where people do not agree about what even consititutes facts or reality.

Why focus on “ecology?” The systems thinking framework from ecology is the best way to understand how a system is operating.  Multifaceted problems like climate change cannot be addressed by tackling one aspect. It is going to require the brain power and expertise from all areas. The climate science is one piece of the puzzle; the ability to relay information and instigate action requires many other skills.

To tackle this goal, I would like to look at how scientists and more broadly academics share information and try to get to the heart of how and why people internalize that information
